British Airways reported a 14% increase over the last year
Low sterling triggers double digit ba.com growth
Thursday, December 10, 2009
British Airways reported a 14% increase over the last year in the amount of traffic to ba.com from Africa, Asia and the Middle East customers looking to visit London. Traditionally seen as an expensive city, the fall in the value of Sterling has meant the UK capital is now a more affordable option for a Christmas or Spring break.

Commenting on the increased interest, Paolo De Renzis, British Airways Regional Manager in the Middle East said: “Over the last six months, we saw a considerable increase of visits to ba.com; where customers can book flights, hotels, and car hire. Actual visitors to the UK from the UAE have increased by 186% and the average money spent by each tourist as the start of 2009 is 16% higher than the same period previous year."

He added, “With our year round competitive fares British Airways is the natural choice for most people wanting to visit Britain. With great fares starting from just AED2945* all inclusive return to London, we offer great value for money for leisure travellers.”

It’s not just the exchange rate that offers a great reason to visit, this winter the city is set to host an exciting range of events which are available on ba.com. These include the Tower of London which boasts a rink ice rink in its dry moat, offering a dramatic and historical backdrop.  Alternatively travellers can enjoy the stunning beauty of Somerset House, an 18th century palace on the banks of the Thames, which will host torch-light late-night skating with surprise guest DJ sessions.

Other attractions London promises its visitors include Winter Wonderland, the German market, and the Festive Foodie Event to name but a few.

Famed for its shopping, London boasts some of the biggest and most well-known malls like Westfield as well as upscale retailers like Harrods and Selfridges along with fascinating markets such as Portobello Road and Borough markets.

Travellers can conclude their shopping experience at Terminal 5 in Heathrow Airport which complements the overall experience with an exceptional touch with offerings from Bulgari, Tiffany, Cartier, Coach, Harrods and many others.
