PATA chairman Mrs Phornsiri Manoharn has received an ‘Outstanding Person of the Year’ award from the National Identity Board in Thailand. Mrs Manoharn, who served the Tourism Authority of Thailand with distinction before retiring in March 2009, received the award from HRH Maha Chakri Sirindhorn during a ceremony Chitralada Palace in Bangkok.

The awards are made in four categories: social development, economic development, innovation in technology and science; promotion of Thailand’s reputation and image. Mrs Manoharn’s award reflected her outstanding work in the field of economic development.

“Nearly all my life has been devoted to promoting Thailand’s tourism industry and the image of Thailand abroad. I hope to continue contributing in the years ahead, even in a private capacity,” she said.

Mrs Manoharn was one of just individuals to receive this prestigious award in 2009.
