Software company instrumental in success for SAS’ joint AOC
Navtech assists Scandinavian Airlines with move to joint AOC
Tuesday, March 02, 2010
On October 1, 2009 Scandinavian Airlines, one of Navtech’s largest customers, announced the decision to discontinue using their Norwegian Air Operators Certificate (AOC) and manage all SAS branded production under one AOC. This complex project was supported by Navtech over several months and involved very close cooperation and partnership between Navtech and SAS.
Through the process and resulting consolidation, Navtech helped SAS in a major cost reduction in their ongoing flight operations. The AOC amalgamation is complete and the decision was made in conjunction with another strategic Scandinavian project, Core SAS. Core SAS is a SAS corporate initiative which aims to reduce cost and simplify service of key components.
An AOC is a mandatory document for passenger airlines issued by the airline’s home country safety regulator. SAS in Norway had its own AOC until October 1, 2009, while SAS in Denmark, Sweden and internationally had a joint AOC. Within the scope of merging to one AOC Navtech worked extensively with SAS on a variety of projects that filtered across all four Navtech products used by SAS-Charts, Flight Planning, Aircraft Performance, and Navigation Data.
Specific projects are listed below:
- Discontinued SAS Norway Airway Routes Structure to consolidate route library with SAS Routes Structure library
- Submitted consolidated Route Structure library into SAS Flight Management System
- Verified data of 250+ airports and combined Chart Manual content into one tailored version.
