Airport Parking and Hotels study
Brits shed clothes (and teeth!) at the Airport
Monday, March 08, 2010

A recent study carried out by Airport Parking and Hotels has discovered that Brits can become quite forgetful when jetting off on holiday. When APH lifted the lid on their lost property box, almost half of all the items were accessories or clothing. Posing the question, are travelers shedding their clothing to show off their holiday tans?

Surprisingly, last year nearly one holiday maker a day left a personal belonging behind at APH.  Gadgets were commonly misplaced items, with 17% of APH's total lost items being made up of mobile phones, games consoles, mp3 players and cameras. Luckily, only 4% of travelers lost the most essential holiday item, the passport!

The APH team were intrigued by some of the more unusual lost items including, wheelchairs, odd shoes and even false teeth!

Nick Caunter, Managing Director at APH said: “It's amazing to see some of the items that were found.  People are quite literally walking away without their crutches and walking sticks!"

Some of the most interesting items found were:
- A set of false teeth
- A tube of haemorrhoid cream in a ski boot
- Fishing rods
- Crutches & walking sticks
- Ski equipment
- Wheelchairs
- Prams
- Odd shoes
- Electric Scales
- Glasses

Nick continued, "APH will go to great lengths to reunite lost property with their owners, particularly when it means our customers get their holiday off to a stress free start.  If after six-months an item remains unclaimed,  it is then donated to charity."

One customer who had been reunited with his lost property contacted APH and said: “The guys were fantastic at Gatwick as I stupidly left my wallet in the car. They went and got it for me and brought it on the next bus. Thank you once again without it I would have been a lost passenger” Mr M, Suffolk.
