Day visitors centre and further extensions planned for Askari Game Lodge
Plumari Lodge sheds old look and resurfaces after R15m. revamp as Askari Game Lodge
Thursday, March 11, 2010

Situated on the Plumari Private Game Reserve in Magaliesberg, Askari Lodge is undergoing a number of exciting expansions which will be taking place at the lodge over the next few months.

Askari Game Lodge, previously known as Plumari Game Lodge, is increasing the room capacity from 24 to 33 rooms, while retaining the current nostalgic look and feel of the lodge. The elephant dam has been tripled in size allowing better viewing of the elephants frolicking in the midday heat.

Plans are also afoot for a day visitors centre of 1530m², with a 260m² viewing deck and an 180m² lower ground terrace that will be used as departure point for day game drives. The day visitors’ centre consists of two levels. Guests enter ground level through an impressive Porte-cochere, spilling over into the reception area, offices, lounge, restaurant, banqueting or conference hall, bar and viewing deck overlooking the natural surroundings. The lower ground floor consists of three break-away rooms, offices and a terrace. Expected completion of the R 15 million expansions are mid 2010.

Ryno Niehaus, Design and Project Architect for DBM Architects explains the architectural style as African Contemporary: “Strong natural elements are combined in a modern manner to create an impressive visitors centre that fits in with the look and feel of Askari Lodge.” Operations Director Leon Bosch adds that this expansion is the first step of many to Askari becoming one of the most prestigious big five game resorts in the country Askari Game Lodge forms part of the Guvon Hotels & Spas group. Guvon Hotels & Spas further includes  Kloofzicht Lodge, Glenburn Lodge, Bushwillow Tented Camp and Chicama Country Spa – all situated in the scenic Muldersdrift area, as well as the four-star Umbhaba Lodge situated in Hazyview. The 5 star Fairway Hotel & Spa is presently under construction on the Randpark Golf Course and due to open May 2010.
