Discovery Adventures "Historic Parks" voted tour of a Lifetime
Thursday, May 06, 2010
Discovery Adventures, the adventure travel brand developed in partnership with Discovery Channel and Gap Adventures, was honored as a tour of a lifetime by National Geographic Traveler magazine in their annual "50 Tours of a Lifetime" issue. Launched in July 2009, Discovery Adventures was chosen for one of their 31 trip itineraries, "Historic Parks of the American Southwest."

Each year National Geographic Traveler magazine's editors comb the world to find the 50 most authentic, innovative, best-guided and most sustainable trips for their "Tours of a Lifetime" list.

"We aspire to deliver the most culturally immersive, expert-guided and authentic trips through Discovery Adventures," says Elizabeth Bakacs, Vice President, Licensing for Discovery Communications. "It is such an honor to be recognized by National Geographic Traveler as a tour operator who offers travelers a vacation with true meaning and context."

The "Historic Parks of the American Southwest" excursion offers a personalized look at five National Parks led by expert guides. During this 12-day adventure, participants will discover the rich history and Native American culture first-hand from a local Navajo guide. Included are entrance fees to all National Parks with hiking and walking excursions, a ranger guided tour of the Mesa Verde ruins, a Navajo guide and tour by 4x4 vehicle in Monument Valley as well as a ranger guided hike of the Navajo National Monument including Keet Seel and Betatakin cliff dwellings. Tours are limited to 12 people.

There are four departures this summer beginning in June and costs $2599 per person. As with all Discovery Adventures trips, arrival transfer and daily breakfast is included and all accommodations are three-star comfort level properties.

Discovery Adventures offers truly affordable, comfortable and authentic experiences that go beyond the surface with in-depth, real-life encounters - encouraging participants to become part of the local cultures that they have come to know through top-rated Discovery Channel series. Itineraries are the ultimate in adventure travel and offer 31 exclusive trips to 18 worldwide destinations in North America (Alaska, Southwest), Latin America (Peru, Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Costa Rica), Africa (Tanzania, South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Egypt, Morocco) and Asia (India, China, Tibet, Thailand). Trips include arrival transfer, daily breakfast, comfortable accommodations with en suite bathrooms, and some amenities. Prices exclude airfare and each tour consists of group sizes ranging from six to 16 people with trip lengths from three to 24 days.
