RwandAir has announced a promotion dubbed The B500 Silverback Promo as a way of introducing its recently delivered Boeing 737-500 to its network. The promotion largely targeting southbound travel to the world cup from East Africa will run in four countries including Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda and South Africa.

While announcing the promotion, Head of Marketing and Corporate Communication Michael Otieno said, “We are pleased to have with us the B735 at a time when most travellers are looking to travel to South Africa for the World Cup. The B500 Promo offers the irresistible return fare of USD500 all inclusive from Kigali, Entebbe and Nairobi to Johannesburg. Passengers from Nairobi and Entebbe will have easy connections to Johannesburg via Kigali”.

The airline also announced exciting offers for the first passengers ticketed on the maiden flight from Kigali to Johannesburg where it flies every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday with same day return flights to Kigali.

RwandAir recently took delivery of its first Boeing 737-500 at a colourful night ceremony held at Kigali International Airport. The aircraft was met by top government officials, RwandAir board of directors, management and staff of the airline among other dignitaries. The delivery flight WB380 coincided with the maiden flight Lufthansa’s new A380 from Frankfurt to Johannesburg.

Speaking during the reception ceremony, RwandAir CEO Rene Janata said “Our fleet acquisition program and network expansion activities must not only offer Rwanda as country connectivity, but also offer our customers convenience, and service reliability”.

The second leased Boeing 737-500 is expected to join RwandAir fleet by August 2010 to support the airlines’ network expansion drive. Meanwhile Boeing Commercial Airplanes confirm being on course with the delivery of two Boeing 737-800 due in June and August 2011 respectively.
