
Olympic Air (OA) is a new airline, registered in Greece, born from the acquisition of formerly state-owned flag carrier of Greece, ‘Olympic Airlines’, by Marfin Investment Group in April 2009. Olympic Air launched scheduled operations on 29 September 2009, carrying over the historic name and logo of ‘Olympic Airlines’ embodying a dynamic, modern approach to the company’s management and operation.
Olympic Air, in the context of its ongoing efforts to enhance its global presence, has contracted Aviareps as its representative for a total of ten regions. With immediate effect, the world’s leading aviation and tourism management company will be in charge of all future sales, marketing and ticketing activities of Olympic Air in the following countries: Spain, Germany, Scandinavia, Finland, the Baltic states, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Ukraine, Russia and Japan.
Olympic Air currently operates approximately 200 flights per day within a network of 43 destinations (14 international and 23 domestic). Through its main operation base at Athens International Airport, and its secondary hubs in Thessaloniki and Rhodes, Olympic Air operates international services to: London (United Kingdom), Paris (France), Brussels (Belgium), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Vienna (Austria), Milan and Rome (Italy), Bucharest (Romania), Sofia (Bulgaria), Larnaca (Cyprus), Tirana (Albania), Istanbul (Turkey) as well as Cairo and Alexandria (Egypt).
Olympic Air operates domestic routes flying to and from Athens, Thessaloniki, Kavala, Alexandroupolis, Limnos, Lesvos, Chios, Samos, Kos, Rhodes, Syros, Mykonos, Santorini, Heraklion, Chania, Kefalonia, Zakynthos, Ioannina, and Corfu. In addition, the Greek carrier serves Public Service Obligation routes (PSOs) from Athens to Astypalea, Leros, Milos, Naxos, Paros, Ikaria, Karpathos, Kythira, Skiathos and Kalymnos and from Rhodes to Karpathos, Kasos, Sitia, Kos, Leros, Astypalea and Kastelorizo. Olympic Air’s network is efficiently designed in order to ensure that all domestic destinations are linked to corresponding international flights. Furthermore, as part of its ongoing effort to offer its passengers enhanced and smooth access to a series of worldwide destinations, Olympic Air has established the following code-share agreements with Delta Airlines for flights to/from New York and Atlanta and onwards to key US destinations (including Las Vegas, San Diego, Cleveland, Phoenix, Tampa, Orlando, Denver, San Juan, New Orleans and Charlotte) on Delta’s aircraft, with Etihad Airways for flights to Abu-Dhabi and onwards to Johannesburg, Cape Town, Sydney and Melbourne, on Etihad’s aircraft and with FlyBaboo for flights to/from Nice and Geneva, on Baboo’s aircraft.
Olympic Air boasts one of the youngest fleets in Europe, with an overall investment exceeding US$ 1.1 billion aiming to create an efficient, environmentally friendly and modern fleet. The fleet currently consists of a total of 31 aircraft. On international and main domestic routes Olympic Air operates 16 Airbus aircraft with two-class configuration – ten of them state-of-the-art aircraft. Short distance services and selected international routes are served with ten Bombardier Dash 8-Q400. These all-economy aeroplanes rank among the most eco-friendly prop airliners in the market. Five further Bombardiers operate flights on the Public Service Obligation (PSO) routes, such as Milos, Paros, Naxos, Leros, Kithira, etc.
