Continued strong growth in Q2 despite volcanic ash, strikes and world cup
Skyscanner quarterly revenue tops £3 million
Monday, July 19, 2010

International flight search site, Skyscanner, announced another record quarter. Strong growth for the quarter (1 April – 30 June) saw revenues rise each month, with the quarterly revenue topping £3 million for the first time, representing a year on year growth of over 2x.

“It has been another exceptional quarter,” said Skyscanner CEO Gareth Williams. “The continued upward trend is particularly encouraging considering the disruption over the last few months created by volcanic ash, strikes and the World Cup which has been affecting the travel sector as some put off planning their holidays until it’s all over.”

While traffic from the UK, Skyscanner’s strongest market, remains robust, international growth of the business continues a trend from the first quarter with a strong YOY performance in both Europe and America, and very encouraging YOY growth rate of 75% in Asia. Recently launched local country sites including Finland, Hungary and Ukraine have also delivered encouraging growth.

Gareth Williams added: “On the back of our first three million pound revenue quarter, at least £150 million downstream revenue has been generated for airlines, OTAs and other partners just from flight sales alone. The relationships we have with our commercial partners are as important to us as the relationship we have with users so we are pleased to see such solid conversion rates for them. And, with yet another record revenue day this week, we look forward to seeing this continue to build.”
