UK holidaymakers choosing more short holiday breaks
UK holidaymakers need for travel insurance for short break holidays
Friday, July 30, 2010

More than 20 per cent of UK holidaymakers have booked themselves a short overseas break in the past year in addition to their main holiday - an increase of five per cent on the previous year, according to new research from Mintel. With overseas short breaks on the increase for UK holidaymakers, Post Office Travel Insurance is reminding travellers of the importance of securing adequate travel insurance cover, even for short trips.

The research revealed that the driving force behind most UK holidaymakers’ short breaks is the desire to experience something new, with 72 per cent of travellers saying they like to visit destinations they’ve never been to before.  When choosing a shorter holiday abroad, UK holidaymakers also look for destinations with good cultural attractions, and good beaches and coastlines.

For those holidaymakers planning shorter breaks alongside a longer holiday, Post Office Travel Insurance suggests they may wish to consider multi-trip annual travel insurance policies. For anyone travelling abroad or within the UK several times a year, these can prove to be better value in the long run than buying several single-trip travel insurance policies.

Post Office Travel Insurance also recommends short break holidaymakers check any existing annual travel insurance policies to ensure that their chosen destinations are covered, as some countries, including the US may require additional worldwide travel insurance cover.
