Visitor arrivals to Singapore registered 24.1% growth to reach 1,095,000 in July 2010 the highest ever recorded visitor arrivals in the month of July. This is also the first time that visitor arrivals have exceeded 1 million in a single month. The positive growth in visitor arrivals this month can be largely attributed to improved travel sentiment, the draw of our Integrated Resorts and the Great Singapore Sale, and tactical promotions by airlines and hotels. Visitor days1 were estimated at 4.3 million days, a year-on-year growth of 21.0% in comparison with July 2009.

Indonesia (232,505), P R China (117,728), Australia (87,273), Malaysia (82,512) and India (64,862) were Singapore's top five visitor-generating markets in July 2010. These markets accounted for 53% of total visitor arrivals for the month. 12 out of the top 15 markets registered positive year-on-year growth in July this year.

In July 2010, P R China (+62.8%), Malaysia (+52.6%), and Hong Kong SAR (+39.9%) registered their highest growth out of the top 15 markets.

Gazetted hotel room revenue was estimated at S$173 million, representing an increase of 37.2% compared to a year ago. Average Occupancy Rate (AOR2) posted a 10.2 percentage point increase over July 2009 to reach 90% in July 2010.

Average Room Rate (ARR3) increased by 19.9% over July 2009 to reach an estimate of S$209 in July 2010. Revenue Per Available Room (RevPAR4) increased by 35.3% to reach S$188 in July 2010. Hotel room revenue grew 37.2% against July 2009 to reach an estimated S$173 million in July 2010.
