Olympic Air activates code-share agreement with Etihad Airways between Athens and Sydney/Melbourne

Olympic Air hereby announces that the code-share agreement with Etihad Airways for flights between Athens and Sydney/Melbourne via Abu-Dhabi is fully activated from 31st October, 2010. Under the agreement, Olympic Air’s flight code OA, placed on the Athens–Abu-Dhabi–Athens routes operated by Etihad Airways (EY) is also placed on selected long-haul flights operated by EY between Abu Dhabi and Sydney/Melbourne.

The agreement with Etihad Airways is part of Olympic Air’s ongoing effort to offer its passengers an enhanced and smooth access to a series of worldwide destinations, especially to major communities of the vibrant Greek diaspora such as Australia.

Olympic Air (OA) is a new airline, registered in Greece, born from the acquisition of formerly state-owned flag carrier of Greece, ‘Olympic Airlines’, by the largest Greek investment group, Marfin Investment Group, in April 2009. Olympic Air launched scheduled operations on September 29th, 2009, carrying over the historic name and logo of ‘Olympic Airlines’ embodying a dynamic, modern approach to the company’s management and operation. Olympic Air boasts one of the youngest fleets in Europe, which consists of 29 aircraft (Airbus Á320s and Á319s, Bombardier DHC8-Q400s and Bombardier DHC8-100s).

Olympic Air operates domestic routes flying to and from Athens, Thessaloniki, Kavala, Alexandroupolis, Limnos, Lesvos, Chios, Samos, Kos, Rhodes, Syros, Mykonos, Santorini, Heraklion, Chania, Kefalonia, Zakynthos, and Ioannina,. OA also operates Public Service Obligation routes to Astipalaia, Leros, Milos, Ikaria, Karpathos, Kasos, Sitia, Naxos, Paros, Kalimnos and Kastelorizo.
Olympic Air operates international services to London, Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, Bucharest, Vienna, Larnaca, Sofia, Cairo, Tirana and Istanbul.

In September 2010 Olympic Air won the “Airline of the Year 2010/11” ERA Silver Award.

Etihad Airways is the national airline of the United Arab Emirates based in the UAE’s capital, Abu Dhabi. The airline offers flights to more than 60 destinations in the Middle East, Europe, North America, Africa, Asia and Australia. In 2009, Etihad won the "World's Leading Airline" award.
