Economic downturn sees many consumers reduce levels of travel insurance
Monday, December 27, 2010
Travellers could be putting themselves at financial risk by reducing or even cutting out key areas of travel insurance cover that protect them in the event of an accident.

According to a survey by the British Insurance Brokers’ Association, 57 per cent of broker respondents (compared to 23 per cent last year), have seen consumers cut their levels of insurance protection during the economic downturn. This is supported by findings from ABTA’s Consumer Trends research that some 19 per cent of UK holidaymakers head aboard without any travel insurance cover in place.

Post Office Travel Insurance is therefore reminding travellers that travel insurance is a vital component of any holiday and could save them from a costly pay-out should they need to claim.

Post Office Travel Insurance recommends both business travellers and holidaymakers shop around in advance for the best deals on their travel insurance to ensure they secure comprehensive cover. For some frequent travellers an annual travel insurance policy may offer the best value for money while others may prefer to opt for one-off cover.

Travel insurance is a vital part of any trip as it can protect against unforeseen cancellations or delays, as well as offering peace of mind should travellers become ill or injured while they are abroad. Reducing levels of cover may save on upfront costs but could result in travellers being stung by huge medical bills should they fall ill while they are away.

Post Office Travel Insurance offers basic, classic or premium travel insurance cover as well as offering UK, European and Worldwide cover.
