ASTA’s 2011 summer hot spots survey reveals top 10 choices
Orlando, Las Vegas remain favorites for U.S. summer travel

For the ninth year in a row, Orlando and Las Vegas remain the most popular summer destinations booked by ASTA travel agents, according to the 2011 Hot Spots for Summer survey. Orlando came out on top with an 18 percent share of responses, and Las Vegas maintained the second spot with 16.percent of the votes.

“Some things never go out of style,” said Chris Russo, ASTA president and chair. “Family-friendly destinations, such as Orlando, and a destination that offers the thrills and excitement of Las Vegas are perennial favorites among Americans looking to relax with family and friends and get away from it all.”

Rounding out the top 10 after Orlando and Las Vegas were Los Angeles (5%), San Francisco (4%), New York City (3%), Miami, (3%), San Diego (2%), Washington, DC (2%), Honolulu (2%) and Seattle (2%).

Florida again topped the state destinations for the 2011 summer season, accounting for 27 percent of all responses with cities such as Orlando, Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and Tampa. Nevada drew the second largest number of responses (16%) with almost all the travel for Las Vegas. California (17%), New York (10%) and Hawaii (9%) rounded out the top five state destinations for summer travel.

Survey data was collected through the 2011 ASTA Research Family. This survey has a 95-percent rate confidence with an error rate +/-4.3 percent. .
