Amadeus e-Merchandise allows airlines to offer a comprehensive range of fare options by “fare family” bands, where fares are grouped into different categories depending on what restrictions and benefits they offer. This makes it much easier for travellers to understand the range of fares and products available and to decide which suits their individual needs. Travellers using the Hong Kong Airlines and Hong Kong Express Airways websites will also benefit from an enhanced flight search option, which instantly returns travel options for a wide range of dates via a calendar display option.
Tina Tian, Deputy Director, Commercial, Hong Kong Airlines said, “Travellers today expect an online booking experience that’s user friendly, efficient and provides access to a comprehensive range of information. Amadeus e-Merchandise will enable an enhanced shopping experience, including both easy-to-understand “fare family” product options and excellent calendar search capabilities, allowing customers to quickly and easily view flight options over a range of dates”.
John Chapman, Vice President, Airline Group, Amadeus Asia Pacific commented, “With the Asia Pacific region now accounting for 41 percent[1] of total global internet users, consumers in the region will soon dominate the online travel market. Airlines must embrace technology to keep up with the trend and help them manage the rapid growth in online bookings”.
“Amadeus is committed to providing our airline customers with the technology and support they need to meet the changing demands of the industry and we are confident that Hong Kong Airlines’ implementation of Amadeus e-Merchandise will enable them to deliver a better booking experience for the end traveller, resulting in greater customer retention and improved profitability through higher sales achievement,” Chapman concluded.
Amadeus e-Merchandise is initially available for six major travel routes, from Hong Kong to Singapore, Tokyo, Osaka, Okinawa, Beijing and Shanghai respectively and will be introduced to other routes in the coming months.
