The decision of the World Psychiatric Association to hold its international congress in the Austrian capital from October 27–30, 2013 is no less gratifying for Vienna as a congress venue and the place where Sigmund Freud once lived and worked. In 2013 – exactly 30 years after the 1983 World Congresses of Psychiatry, which was also staged in Vienna – some 5,000 specialists will gather at the Austria Center Vienna to discuss the latest developments in their field during the “International ess of the World Psychiatric Association”. The congress will be managed by “Guarant International”, the professional Czech congress organizer, which negotiated Vienna’s successful application in collaboration with the Vienna Convention Bureau.
“These two large-scale events will generate at total of 30,000 bednights for Vienna and contribute around 18 million euros to Austria’s gross domestic product,” explains Christian Mutschlechner, Director of the Vienna Convention Bureau at the Vienna Tourist Board. “This success has been made possible by the close cooperation between the organizers, the congress centers involved – Austria Center Vienna and Reed Messe Wien – and the Vienna Convention Bureau.”
