
The resolution made pursuant to the instructions of the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation following the meeting devoted to the development of the Moscow Transport Hub that took place on 28 March 2011. The resolution underscores the importance of Moscow Domodedovo Airport as one of the pillars of the Russian transport system and the largest airport in the Eastern Europe.
The runway will be about 1800 m east of existing Runway-2. According to the Ministry of Transport evaluation, the new runway will allow the airport to reach the planned capacity up to 50 million passengers a year, and up to 110 million passengers a year for the entire Moscow Aviation Hub. In 2010, Domodedovo Airport serviced about 22.3 million passengers.
As part of the public-private partnership, Moscow Domodedovo Airport will finance the preliminary works related construction of the federal facility.
Moscow Domodedovo Airport is the largest airport in Russia, providing 44% of the total passenger traffic in the Moscow Aviation Hub. In 2010, the airport services were provided to 22.3 million passengers. More than 70 Russian and foreign airlines are the airport's partners. Members of such popular airline alliances as Star Alliance, oneworld and SkyTeam have chosen Moscow Domodedovo Airport for their flights to Moscow.
