Tuesday, June 14, 2011

Airports Council International
(ACI) Asia-Pacific is proud to announce the formation of the Small Airports Network. The ACI Asia-Pacific Small Airports Network was formed with the objective to build a platform for small airports in the region to address common concerns in small airport operations. The network will facilitate participating airports to exchange ideas, experiences and best practices.

Mrs. Maggie Kwok, Regional Director of ACI Asia-Pacific said, “I wish to thank the support of our airport members in the formation of the Small Airports Network. Approximately 20% of our members in the region can be classified as small airports and it is often through exchange of experiences and best practices that can help our members to improve and tackle challenges. The formation of the network will provide an easily accessible platform for our members to share their experiences through regular communications. Network members will also meet annually in conjunction with the annual Small Airports Seminar.”

The first ACI Asia-Pacific Small Airports Network was formed after the 7th ACI Asia-Pacific Small Airports Seminar which was held on June 3, 2011 in Incheon, Korea. At the inaugural Network meeting, the Chairman and Vice Chairs were elected.

Mr. P.S. Nair, CEO Corporate, Airports Sector, GMR Group, India was elected as the Chairman of the network. Mr. Nair has over 37 years of diverse experience in airport sector in both public and private domains. Mr. Nair has also been recently elected as a Director of the ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Board.

Mrs. Mary Torres, Executive Manager, A.B. Won Pat International Airport Authority, Guam and Mr. Robert D. Waloni, Director, Commercial & Business Development, PT (Persero) Angkasa Pura I, Indonesia were elected as the 1st and 2nd Vice Chair of the network respectively.

In commenting on the appointment of chairmanship, Mrs. Kwok said, “I must congratulate Mr. Nair, Mrs. Torres and Mr. Waloni on their appointment to lead the Small Airports Network. I trust that with their extensive experience in airport management, the network members will benefit greatly under their guidance.”
