Data from the Office for National Statistics has shown that Brits travelled for longer in 2010. The UK's leading online travel agency On the Beach, has observed a similar trend with many of its customers heading to the Mediterranean for two weeks in the sun.

Alistair Daly, Marketing Director of On the Beach, comments: "In recent years we have seen a steady increase in the number of nights that Brits on romantic and family holidays spend abroad. One week holidays are still the norm, yet more and more of our customers are opting for an extra seven days of fun and relaxation."

The Office for National Statistics found that the average length of stay for UK residents abroad rose to 10.9 nights in 2010. These numbers were a significant increase from the 9.9 nights which constituted the average trip abroad in 2007.

On the Beach say that Brits are booking longer trips abroad across the board. Warm Mediterranean holidays to Costa Blanca, Majorca and other Spanish destinations have proven particularly popular with families and couples looking for two week breaks.

Daly concludes: "It's great to see British tourists taking off on ever longer holidays. With the pace of modern life, it is all too easy to get stressed out. One week abroad will certainly help you relax, yet an extra seven days is the perfect way to really let all your cares slip away. This summer is the ideal time to take one of these extended sojourns."
