Innovative technology optimizes travel agency capabilities
Travelport launches Travelport Smartpoint app
Monday, October 24, 2011
Travelport, the business services provider to the global travel industry, launches Travelport Smartpoint App, a new add-on application for the Galileo Desktop, which represents a significant advancement in Travelport’s graphical, point-and-click technology. The application infuses the cryptic environment (Focalpoint) with a hybrid of native and point-and-click navigation, plus graphical user interfaces to speed up the reservation process, reduce call handling time and improve the agent user experience.

Travelport Smartpoint App evolves the Galileo Desktop with dynamic and interactive technology to improve travel consultant productivity and customer service by combining efficiency of command entries with clarity of graphical overviews and click-through links. Moreover, Travelport Smartpoint App provides intelligent translation capabilities that allow agents to use commands from any GDS within a cryptic environment thereby dramatically reducing training needs.

Travelport Smartpoint App powers up core functions to substantially reduce keystrokes when shopping and booking itineraries, reducing call handling times and overall keystrokes by 15% and up to 72% when searching for the ‘best’ fare. Agents can use point-and-click functionality across the board to search low fares, book flights, hotels and car rentals, and manage PNRs and profiles.  An interactive calendar allows the travel agent to combine air and hotel in one search – all just with a simple click.

Travelport Smartpoint App was originally developed to fulfill the business needs of Travelport’s largest global customers, but the product’s benefits and capabilities became so far-reaching and broad-based that it is now available on a commercial basis.

“This is innovation at its very best,” said Gillian Gibson, chief marketing officer for Travelport. “I foresee Travelport Smartpoint App being hungrily adopted by the industry, as it is easy to install, becomes operational extremely fast and, on top of that, it provides intelligent system translation capabilities. In other words, it supports other GDS languages, eliminates the need for re-training, and allows any user to hit the ground running with the GDS language they are used to.  By building on how agents work today, Travelport Smartpoint App will strengthen their most valuable assets – their existing investments in people and technology.”
