Austria is the most popular destination among the Russian skiers
Friday, November 11, 2011
The operators affirm that New Year tours to Austria have been sold like “hot cakes”. One of the reasons of such popularity is a very attractive price which almost has not changed in comparison with last year. An average price of the tour varies from 700 to 2500 Euros per person. For example, PAC Group states the growth of the sales for Austria by 30-35%.

The experts note that traditionally a great interest can be noted for New Year tours with the departure date on the 2nd of January. However, the demand for the trips from the 26th of December has increased this year. The general demand for New Year tours can be noted from August till the end of November, but the sales continue till the latest dates of applying for a visa.

According to the tour operators, the growth of the tourist flow to Austria is supported by rather good profitability of the destination. The appearance of the new players of the market has not affected the stability of the destination. “For the moment, the general volume of sales falls on Tyrol resorts, but the new competitors usually start working with Salzburgerland, that’s why we don’t feel a great competition and dumping. Certainly, the activities of Salzburgerland’s players partly pull off the tourists from Tyrol, but now the region is holding the leadership,” explains Maria Sharova from PAC Group.

In Russian Express said that they would not reduce the price for attracting the tourists. “We offer a wide range of the flights to Munich, Innsbruck and Salzburg. The airports of Munich and Innsbruck are situated close to Tyrol, and that is one of the most popular places among the Russians. At the same time the air transportation to Munich may be cheaper: the regular air carriers very often give the attractive special tariffs,” notes Natalia Ermak from Russian Express.

In many ways the popularity of Austria can be explained by the price policy of the resorts. “Only a traditional 2-3% inflation growth has been noted, we note it every year for all the destinations,” says Aleksandr Skopintsev from ICS Travel Group.

Austria attracts not only the Russians. According to the recent research which was published by Der Standard, Austria became a number one ski destination in Europe for the Dutch. Only then went Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Czech Republic and France.
