Great Little Breaks is a new web-based UK short breaks leisure brand that enables individuals to book short breaks across the country, staying in 3* to 5* accommodation (hotel and apartment-based), complete with attraction passes, entrance to heritage properties, spa treatments, complimentary wine and a plethora of other added-value delights.
Launched by parent company hotelshopuk.com, Great Little Breaks initially offers 12 types of break including Great Little Christmas Breaks, Great Little Winter Breaks, Great Little Family Breaks, Great Little Explorer Breaks and Great Little Gourmet Breaks. Further categories will be added steadily and seasonally, such as Great Little Coastal Breaks, Great Little Theatre Breaks, Great Little Valentine's Breaks, Great Little Mother's Day Breaks, Great Little Luxury Breaks, and so on.
Says MD Vivienne Hudson: "We are delighted to be launching our new Great Little Breaks brand just as the demand for UK short breaks is growing. We believe that we're in the right place - online - at the right time."
A snapshot of the UK short breaks market
- Almost 9 in every 10 short breaks taken in 2010 were taken in the UK.
- Out of 2,046 adults surveyed, 26% had taken a UK short break in the past twelve months, compared to 8% who had taken an overseas short break.
- In 2010, 1-3 night short breaks accounted for 41.7 million of the 96.4 million UK tourism trips taken.
- For a city break, historic cities (eg Oxford, York) hold more appeal than cities such as Manchester and Newcastle. London is an important destination, with one in five having visited the capital.
- 45% of people book a UK short break on the internet, versus 24% on the phone.
