Most pessimistic are Danish travel companies
Nordic travel companies focusing solely on leisure travel are getting rapidly more pessimistic
Thursday, January 26, 2012
In Resegeometri’s January measurement, Nordic Travel Industry Expectancy Index, is pessimism growing among travel companies on three out of four Nordic markets regarding both their confidence to the travel industry’s overall economic development (macro) and their confidence to their own company’s economic development (micro). Most pessimistic are Danish travel companies, and most optimistic are Norwegian travel companies.

Nordic travel companies are in general much more optimistic about their own company’s development then they are to the total travel industry’s development, which is not a sustainable approach in the longer term, and rather reflects a wishful thinking or self-preservation in order to live up to too unreasonable company goals.

In a comparison with November last year the perhaps most remarkable is that Nordic travel companies focusing solely on leisure travel have become significantly more pessimistic on both micro and macro level, while travel companies  with a business travel focus on the contrary has become somewhat more optimistic, says Jan Borg vice president at Resegeometri.

Travel Industry Expectancy Index is an independent temperature gauge on Nordic travel companies’ confidence regarding their own economy (micro) in relation to their confidence to the travel industry’s overall economic development (macro). The measurement is focusing on the difference between the proportion of optimists and the share of pessimists in the market, and results in two indices that acts as guides for the economic development at both the micro and macro level.

The survey is conducted quarterly since the fall of 2011, and is one of several independent analysis of the Nordic travel industry implemented by the market research and consultancy company Resegeometri Nordic AB.
