For Swedish travellers Copenhagen is the cheapest destination
Friday, April 16, 2004
For the Swede, Copenhagen has had a reputation of being a rather expensive place to visit. But according to the latest European Corporate Travel Index - a research study carried out by American Express - this is simply not true. Among the 20 cities in the survey Copenhagen is, in fact, the cheapest place a Swede could possibly visit.

The Travel Index gives an overview of how much it costs to travel from a selection of European cities to 20 big city destinations around the world. The figures include air travel, taxi transfers from airport to city centre, hotel accommodation for one night and meals. The good news for Swedish visitors is that Copenhagen is by far the best buy.

Copenhagen is considerably cheaper

The index is worked out in US $ and for a person travelling from Stockholm to Copenhagen the cost for a two day stay is $586. In comparison, a similar trip to Paris - the most expensive place for a Swede to visit - would amount to $1,439. Travelling from Stockholm to London is almost twice as expensive as going to Copenhagen, and if you were to choose Brussels, the city that holds the second place after Copenhagen, for your destination the cost would be $809, which is 38% more expensive.

You can do it even cheaper

Over the past few years, Copenhagen has undergone a tremendous development in its infrastructure, with a new extended airport, train services to the city centre and a metro. This means that you won`t be wasting your time getting around when visiting the city. If you choose to take the airport train from the airport to the city centre instead of a taxi your trip will be even cheaper. The 13 minutes ride only costs less then $4.

The top ten list of the cheapest destinations for a Swede:

  1. Copenhagen $586

  2. Brussels $809

  3. Frankfurt $811

  4. Zurich $920

  5. Rom $962

  6. Prague $1111

  7. London $1127

  8. Amsterdam $1274

  9. Madrid $1427

  10. Paris $1439
