Sunset Resorts: Statement regarding hurricane Ivan
Monday, September 13, 2004
On September 10, 2004, Hurricane Ivan skirted the south coast of Jamaica, the eye failed to make landfall. Sunset Resorts - operators of Sunset Beach Resort & Spa in Montego Bay, Sunset at the Palms in Negril and Sunset Jamaica Grande (formerly Jamaica Grande) in Ocho Rios - have made full assessments of all three of the company`s North Coast properties:

Sunset Jamaica Grande, Ocho Rios
Status: No damage to Jamaica`s largest resort. The 730 room resort had closed for renovations on September 6, 2004 following the recent purchase by the operators of Sunset Resorts; as a result there were no guests in house during the storm. Sunset Jamaica Grande will reopen on December 19, 2004 following the completion of the planned renovation program.

Sunset at the Palms, Negril
Status: No damage, some landscaping down. Resort had closed September 1st for planned renovations through November 1, 2004, so there were no guests at the resort. Reopening following extensive renovations remains on target for November 2004.

Sunset Beach Resort & Spa, Montego Bay
Status: All 350 in-house guests are safe and the 430-room resort has not suffered any infrastructural damage. It was further reported that a clean up program is underway to collect and remove landscaping debris caused by high winds. Over 100 of the resort`s staff and management are continuously being accommodated on property to continue to ensure the safety and comfort of the guests.

Sunset Resorts maintains a detailed Hurricane Preparedness Plan, which went into effect as soon as the threat of the storm was announced. The entire staff had taken all precautions to keep guests safe, comfortable, and well informed at Sunset Beach Resort & Spa. As such, all went smoothly.

The security and comfort of our guests is our priority. Our management team and staff have taken all precautionary and prudent measures to ensure their safety, said Sunset Beach Resort & Spa General Manager Evatt Bloomfield. We are extremely grateful that Jamaica has been spared the full force of this Hurricane, and it is our hope that neighboring islands will be as fortunate as we have been. We have opened our main dining room and served dinner Saturday evening to all guests. Guests are in good spirits and certainly respect our classic Jamaican hospitality during this time.

Poll
How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
