Golden Tulip enters Romania
Friday, September 17, 2004
Golden Tulip Hotels, Inns & Resorts announced the signing of a new franchise agreement in Romania for the Golden Tulip Bucharest.

The 83-room new build hotel is currently under construction and due to open its doors in December 2004 as the Golden Tulip Bucharest. The four star hotel will be located in the heart of Bucharest and will offer 83 rooms, including 2 suites, a restaurant and a lobby bar. The Golden Tulip Bucharest will feature 4 conference rooms for up to 60 delegates.

Mr Subchi Tanus, owner of the Golden Tulip Bucharest states: We are extremely happy to have signed this agreement. Golden Tulip is a brand with 42 years of history but new in the Romanian market. Our hotel enjoys a triple A location in this fast developing market and we are confident that teaming up a fresh brand, such as Golden Tulip, we will give the hotel the best starting point to enter the local, regional and international hotel market.

Hans Kennedie, president and CEO of Golden Tulip says: We are proud to add this new hotel and new destination to our family of Golden Tulip hotels. Our expansion efforts in Eastern Europe are showing good returns and we are looking towards developing more new destinations in this region in the near future.

Golden Tulip Hotels, Inns & Resorts is a privately owned franchise company with its head office based in Amersfoort, the Netherlands, franchising some 260 hotels across 41 countries, with the majority of hotels being located in urban destinations across Europe, the Middle East & Africa. Through its commercial alliance with TOP International Hotels, a German based hotel consortium, the combined portfolio comprises over 43,000 rooms in approximately 390 hotels. Golden Tulip offers a unique franchise concept for two brands, designed to implement international standards, whilst maintaining local flavours: Golden Tulip for the four and five star business and resort hotels and Tulip Inn for the three star category. TOP International Hotels offers hotel reservations, marketing and sales services to independent hotels.

Poll
How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
