Germans and Russians rediscover Bulgarian ski runs
Monday, November 29, 2004
Charter programs for winter season start after December 20th, this is the beginning of holidays in Europe, Dimitar Hadjinikolov, Deputy Minister of Economy, stated. At present bookings are under way and Britain tourists show greatest interest in Bulgarian resorts. There are also reservations from German provinces, which traditionally came to Bulgaria 15-20 years ago. This year TUI has its own charter winter offer for the second time, Hadjinikolov informed. Neighboring countries also show interest in holidays in Bulgaria. Bansko and Borovets are favorite to Greek tourists, Turkish tourists prefer Pamporovo. In case of a good snow, an increase of 5-7% is quite reasonable. Russian tourists also rediscover Bulgaria. About BGN 10 million will be invested in the infrastructure of Borovets and Pamporovo.

Next year the meeting of the European Travel Committee will take place in Bulgaria. We will apply to be a host of the event on the next session of the executive council of the World Tourism Organization. In this way Bulgaria will become famous as a country, active participant in the process of the development of tourism on a European and world scale, Deputy Minister of Economy stated.

Poll
How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
