Dome display welcomes visitors to London
Wednesday, February 09, 2005
A giant London 2012 banner has been erected on the roof of The Dome as London prepares to welcome the International Olympic Committee Evaluation Commission to the city.

The spectacular brand dressing consists of two banners covering 8,200 square metres of The Dome`s roof, and is thought to be the largest building wrap ever constructed in Europe.

The Dome would host Basketball and Gymnastics if London is chosen to host the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, and is one of the venues that the IOC Commission will visit during a four-day trip to the city between 16-20 February.
The banners were commissioned by Anschutz Entertainment Group, a London 2012 major partner and the owners of The Dome.
Anschutz has announced plans to develop The Dome into a 26,000-capacity sports and entertainment arena at the heart of a new leisure complex.

The banners, which are 40 per cent larger that the temporary poster site erected on the facade of Selfridges department store on Oxford Street in 2000, are clearly visible to passengers on flights into London`s Heathrow and City Airports.
London 2012 Chairman Sebastian Coe said the The Dome played a key role in the bid team`s plans.

We are proud to have Anschutz as a major partner and believe the arena at The Dome will be an outstanding venue to host Gymnastics and Basketball events.

The Dome fits the IOC`s latest thinking of using existing facilities close to the athletes` village and will also provide a spectacular backdrop for events.
