Delta to begin new non-stop Atlanta-Moscow service
Friday, March 25, 2005
Customers will now have more access to Russia thanks to Delta Air Lines’ new, non-stop service from Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport to Moscow Sheremetyevo International Airport starting June 1. Delta is the only U.S. carrier that operates service to Russia, where it has operated since 1991, and currently flies nonstop to Moscow daily from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK).

The new flight, recently approved by the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Russian government, will operate using Boeing 767-300ER aircraft, which carries up to 204 passengers in a two-class configuration, and features Delta’s award-winning BusinessElite service.

“As Russia continues to become an important global destination, Delta’s new service will greatly benefit customers traveling between Russia and the U.S. Southeast as well as key business centers in the U.S. Southwest and leisure destinations in Florida,” said Jorge Fernandez, vice president -International and Alliances. “Additionally, with more than 1,000 flights per day to more than 180 non-stop destinations, the Atlanta hub will provide unrivaled access to the United States and North America for customers traveling to and from Russia.”

“This new service provides travelers with convenient new connection possibilities to and from popular West Coast points, especially in California,” said Fernandez. “The service further facilitates trade between the United States and Russia, especially in the high-growth energy and technology industries. And leisure travelers can look forward to visiting famous Moscow sites including the Kremlin, Gorky Park and the famous St. Basil Cathedral.”

Investment and trade with the destination country grow every time a new airline route is established,
said Craig Lesser, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, And we look forward to building on Georgia`s existing relationships in Russia through this new Delta service.
