Cooperation between American Express and Travelsky
Tuesday, April 19, 2005
Travelsky Technology Ltd., the electronic air travel distribution system provider in China, formally signed an agreement on exclusive strategic cooperation with American Express, the largest corporate travel corporation worldwide in Shanghai on Apr. 14. This means Travelsky will become the sole GDS (Global Distribution System) service provider for American Express in Mainland China in the future 3 years.

It is a common understanding among industry analysts that GDS providers of American Express in other countries and regions will expand into China’s market in the context of the incoming fulfillment of China’s undertaking on GDS market access. However, after years of thorough research and practice in China’s market, American Express has chosen Travelsky on its own initiative as the exclusive GDS provider in China’s market in the future 3 years. The agreement indicates American Express’ confidence in China’s air travel market in addition to its recognition of strength, experience, position, and value of Travelsky as far as the local market is concerned. Moreover, this agreement functions as a huge challenge as well as chance for Travelsky to continuously enhance high-quality technical solutions and services through the combination of globalization and localization.

This time, the cooperation of the two companies could be regarded as a perfect combination of business and techinology in China`s business travel market. It will also have far-reaching influence in promoting the overall development of China`s Air Tourism Market.

The cooperation particularly brings more convenience to business travel customers, and offers better services to the distribution services and travel management for the customers of US Yun Tong global company. Besides, it will also increase the international air lines sales of domestic air liners for US Yun Tong.It makes foreign funded companies experience standard travel services according to international standard, which is combined with their experience with localization.

According to resources, all joint ventures and single ventures affiliated to American Express in Mainland China will choose Travelsky as the sole Electronic Air travel Distribution System provider (GDS provider) as far as air travel product distribution is concerned after signing the agreement. Travelsky will lend support to the ventures of American Express in Mainland China on the aspects of service, equipment, technology, product, system, etc. as well as provide training to their employees concerning about electronic distribution system operation and other associated expertise for the purposes of complementing respective advantages on technology and business of the two parties and facilitating mutual business development.

The agreement signing initiated by American Express has attracted attention of global air travel industry and enhanced confidence of the corporations taking a wait-and-see attitude towards local GDS providers.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
