Slovenia: First ship docks as Koper seeks to become cruise ship destination
Wednesday, May 04, 2005
A cruise ship carrying over 620 passengers docked in Koper on Thursday as plans to make the city a cruise ship destinations start to take shape. This is also the first step towards the construction of a passenger terminal.

Plans to make the city an attractive cruise ship destination were put into practice when the Port of Koper gave up terminal one right next to the city centre in exchange for another location.
Matjaz France, the director of the local consortium for the construction of a passenger terminal, expects that from now on cruise ships will dock at Koper more often.

He said that if all goes according to plan, the passenger terminal could be finished in 2008.
The disembarking passengers had the option of taking seven different day trips around the country, or just taking it easy in Koper.

Some 60 percent decided to go to the lakeside resorts of Bled and Bohinj, or to Ljubljana.
