Foreign Commonwealth Office
FCO issues a travel advice for Turkey
Thursday, May 12, 2005
The UK`s Foreign Commonwealth Office issued a travel advice for Turkey. According to FCO there is a high threat from terrorism in Turkey. Since the bomb attacks in Istanbul on 15 and 20 November 2003, which caused a large number of deaths and casualties, there have been a number of small-scale terrorist incidents. Targets have included sites that are linked to Western (including UK) interests as well as to the Turkish state.

FCO strongly recommends that travellers should obtain comprehensive travel and medical insurance before travelling to Turkey.

Due to the UEFA Champions League Final which will be held at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul on 25 May 2005 a large number of supporters expected and hotels will be busy, so FCO recommends that all visitors who plan to visit Istanbul during that period should make reservations in advance.

How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
