Delight as London wins right to stage the Olympic Games
Thursday, July 07, 2005
The benefit to the UK’s Tourism industry of winning the Olympic bid will be massive, in the years before and after 2012. The Tourism Society, the national network of more than 1,000 tourism professionals, congratulated all involved in the London 2012 bid for their extraordinary achievement in winning the Olympic games for the country.

“This will surely go down as one of the most momentous days in the recent history of London and the UK. Some of our members played a significant role in the early stages of the development bid and will continue to provide their support,” said chairman, David Curtis- Brignell.

“The hard work has only just begun and the Tourism Society will do everything it can to assist in the preparations for the Olympic Games. We will work along with the entire tourism industry to ensure that London and the other venues in England put on the best possible show in 2012 and create a sustainable legacy thereafter.”

The Tourism Society believes that all competitors, officials, sponsors, media and supporters who attend the Games at venues throughout the UK will be ‘tourists’. “It is important they receive a truly world class welcome and enjoy exemplary facilities and service everywhere they go, so that the tourism benefits will be felt long after 2012 across the whole country,”added Curtis-Brignell.

Poll
How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
