Oakland to Mexico nonstop service now available for booking from Southwest Airlines

The company extends flight schedule through late April 2017.

DALLAS – Southwest Airlines Co. extended the carrier's bookable flight schedule from March 9 through April 24, 2017, while publishing new service to Mexico's beach resorts from Oakland International Airport beginning Feb. 12, 2016, subject to approvals of the Mexican government. The carrier received U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) approval following its application and announced intention of service between Northern California and two destinations on Mexico's Pacific coast. Additional routes newly link cities with nonstop service across the United States. In celebration of the new flights now available for purchase, Southwest is offering special fares (purchase today through Aug. 11, 2016, 11:59 p.m. in the time zone of the originating city).

New nonstop service beginning in February 2017
Beginning Feb. 12, 2017, fly nonstop daily between Oakland (San Francisco Bay Area) and both San Jose del Cabo/Los Cabos, Mexico and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

"As we constantly look at new opportunities to connect Bay Area travelers with fun and exciting places in their lives, these Mexico beach destinations have long topped the list," said Dave Harvey, Southwest Airlines' Managing Director of Business Development. "Oakland will become our 13th gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean from the mainland in February and, with a new bilateral agreement becoming effective later this month, there will be additional opportunities to bring our low fares and unmatched value on numerous additional U.S. – Mexico routes."

Harvey discussed the new flights with the carrier's Bay Area Customers and Employees at a Viva Mexico! Party unfolding today and tomorrow at Jack London Square along the Embarcadero in the Port of Oakland. Traditional Mexican dancers commemorated news of the East and North Bay's first Mexico service by a U.S. carrier.

New nonstop service beginning in March 2017
Beginning March 9, 2017, Southwest will add daily service between Houston (Hobby) and Omaha and between New York/Newark and Ft. Lauderdale. Also beginning March 9, 2017, daily seasonal service will be offered between Las Vegas and Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Beginning March 11, 2017 and furthering its network development of the carrier's near-international service, Southwest also today published new nonstop service to operate seasonally on Saturdays between Denver and Belize City, Belize.

Also on March 11, 2017, Southwest launches nonstop service to operate seasonally on Saturdays and Sundays between Dallas Love Field and Jacksonville. 

This coming weekend, on Sunday, August 7, 2016, Southwest will inaugurate international service from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport to Nassau, The Bahamas.
