Last October saw Wizz Air launch Budapest Airport’s first link to Tenerife South, the largest Canary Island. Having announced new weekly services to Fuerteventura and Lanzarote today, the Hungarian capital airport now has connections to the four main islands of the Spanish archipelago.
Adding to its Tenerife operation, Wizz Air’s new weekly services will triple its links between Budapest and the Canary Islands, and as new destinations for both the airport and the airline, the ULCC faces no competition on either of the airport pairs.
Budapest Airport has announced that Wizz Air will be adding another two links from the Hungarian gateway this winter. Having already celebrated four of the ultra-low-cost carrier’s (ULCC) new routes this year, and with three further routes still to launch, Wizz Air has confirmed new connections to Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, set to start from 30 October and 2 November respectively.
Adding to its Tenerife operation, Wizz Air’s new weekly services will triple its links between Budapest and the Canary Islands, and as new destinations for both the airport and the airline, the ULCC faces no competition on either of the airport pairs. Confirming the addition of two further Spanish winter sun resorts, means Budapest’s fourth largest country market now has nine connections, with close to 10,000 weekly seats available.
Commenting on the announcement, Kam Jandu, CCO, Budapest Airport says: “Wizz Air has seen the potential in connecting Budapest to our missing links in the Canary Islands, meaning we can now offer our passengers a full service to the four main islands of the Spanish archipelago. We are continuing to charge ahead in the first quarter of 2016, and the ongoing support of our home-based carrier is another sign of the promising year ahead.”
Budapest Airport has shown an average passenger traffic growth of over 13% during the first three months of 2016. Welcoming a quarter of a million more passengers than this time last year, the Hungarian gateway is firmly on the road to reaching its targeted 10.9 million passengers for 2016.
