Austrian Airlines<.> continues to expand its leading role in the provision of connections into Eastern Europe and the CIS states. As of 6th June 2001, Austrian Airlines will begin a second daily flight operating from Vienna to Moscow and back to the Austrian capital. In addition to the morning departure of flight OS 601 from Vienna at 10.15 a.m., the company also now offers an evening connection, flight OS 603. This leaves Vienna at 7.40 p.m. and touches down in the Russian capital shortly after midnight at 00.20 a.m. The return flight OS 604 leaves Moscow on a daily basis at 06.55 a.m. every morning, coming into Vienna at 07.50 a.m. The new sunset/sunrise connection operated in co-operation with Aeroflot provides access in both directions to ideal connecting flights to Western Europe. The daily afternoon connection OS 602 from Moscow remains unchanged. It leaves Russia at 3.50 p.m., arriving in Vienna at 4.45 p.m.



At the end of the 1950s, Austrian Airlines was one of the first West European airlines authorised to make regular scheduled flights to Moscow, the maiden flight taking place on 5th June 1959. In addition to the Russian capital, the Austrian Airlines Group now serves the cities of St. Petersburg and Anapa. The connection between Vienna and of St. Petersburg on the river Newa now operates five times per week. There are three flights per week between the Austrian capital and Anapa, a city which provides the ideal starting-point for southern Russia from its Black Sea location. The Austrian Airlines Group now provides a total of 280 weekly connecting flights to 33 key destinations across Eastern Europe and the CIS states.
