GetThere, provider of online corporate travel reservation systems, and CW Government Travel, provider of online travel solutions to the government, yesterday announced they have been awarded a contract to support the U.S. Government`s initiative to implement an end-to-end online travel management solution. This conversion to online travel, known as ETS, is targeted at streamlining government travel and offering convenience to travelers, while potentially saving billions of taxpayer dollars.

To comply with the Bush Administration`s E-Government goal to benefit from Internet efficiencies, the General Services Administration (GSA), in collaboration with 22 other federal agencies, awarded a 10-year contract to CW Government Travel. The company was selected because it demonstrated the best commercial practices, effective use of the Internet and the ability to empower federal travelers at a lower cost, including leveraging GetThere DirectGovernment(TM) as the online travel reservation system in its end-to-end solution, E2.

We`ve already seen the private sector offer traveler convenience and achieve significant travel procurement efficiencies, including Fortune 500 companies that use our online travel reservation system, said Jeff Palmer, president of GetThere. Now, all government agencies will have access to the same cost-saving technology used by these organizations.

GetThere and CW Government Travel already provide their travel technology to several government agencies and branches including the U.S. Army, Department of Health & Human Services (DHSS), US Department of Agriculture (USDA), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). In January 2003, the U.S. Army began implementation of the GetThere DirectGovernment system to more than 10 Army locations. The Army continues to add locations on a regular basis. FERC is now booking 80 percent of its trips online, and the DHSS is booking 50 percent of its trips online.

GetThere is an exceptionally strong partner for us because of its ability to manage the diverse and complex government travel policies and rules, said Craig Thompson, vice president of government markets for CW Government Travel. Together, we believe we provide a solution that will help the government reach its objectives of achieving the maximum savings for taxpayers and providing government travelers with a convenient option.
