Alex Francis, CEO of loveholidays.com said: “There have been stories of unrest in Tunisia and Egypt rumbling on for months now and it’s clearly causing great confusion for travellers. While some parts of these countries remain out of bounds, there are still areas that are considered safe and we’ve compiled a guide to travellers who have booked or are thinking of travelling to these areas.”
“Firstly we’d recommend that travellers to Egypt avoid Cairo and the local attractions as much of the unrest has focused on this region. However, the major holiday resorts of Sharm El Sheikh, Montazah and Hurghada on the Red Sea are still deemed safe and available for bookings. We are monitoring the situation daily and should things change we will advise customers accordingly.”
“As for Tunisia, the situation on this is changing daily. At present the Foreign and Commonwealth Office is advising against travel to selected parts of the country but not including the main holiday regions. Most visits to the main tourist areas of Tunisia have remained trouble free and in general, protests and activity are not targeted towards foreigners. We are continuing to sell holidays to the main coastal holiday resorts.”
“In both countries, we always recommend that tourists remain vigilant and observe local dress codes and cultures. In doing this we do not anticipate that travellers will have any issues this summer.”
