L+R Hotels launches their Career Development initiative

The Fast Track Programme is a key milestone for L+R Hotels, which is investing widely in career development for their owned and managed hotels. Previously each of its hotels and resorts conducted their own programmes.

L+R Hotels, the global hotel investment and management company, is launching its comprehensive career development strategy with a new Fast Track Management in Training Programme.

The Fast Track Programme is a key milestone for L+R Hotels, which is investing widely in career development for their owned and managed hotels. Previously each of its hotels and resorts conducted their own programmes.

Owning some of the most prestigious hotel and resort properties worldwide, L+R Hotels offers ambitious individuals the opportunity to progress and succeed at the highest levels in hospitality.

“Fast Track” will run alongside L+R Hotels’ other career development initiatives: its “Next General Managers” programme to be launched in the next 12 months, and Operational and Project Management Internships.

Attracting the best talent
With its official launch in October 2019, the first Fast Track Programme is already fully subscribed with 11 participants, from within L+R Hotels and from prestigious international universities and hotel management schools. The inaugural candidates come from France, Greece, Italy, Spain and Switzerland.

Desmond Taljaard, Managing Director of L+R Hotels said, “Our new career development strategy is a significant venture for us. We aim to attract the best talent from hospitality schools, universities, our own properties and other industries. We want to help passionate individuals learn and thrive, uphold our CSR commitment and increase motivation and capability amongst all our people.

We will help candidates advance their careers by providing the highest standards in training and development and support their progression within the L+R Hotels portfolio.”

Distinct advantages
Taljaard continues “L+R Hotels’ new Fast Track Programme offers outstanding opportunities and incentives in the hospitality industry. Candidates will gain broad all-round experience, with placements in six different hotel departments across three different hotels in Europe.

"Our first programme will see Fast Trackers rotate between L+R Hotels in the UK, Ibiza, Rhodes and Venice. Most of our competitors only offer a maximum of two departments in one hotel/country and typically pay their candidates less.

All Fast Trackers will be assigned one of our experienced General Managers as their mentor throughout the programme. With their mentor’s support, participants will work on a businessfocused project, presenting it to the L+R Hotels Executive team at the end of the programme.

They will receive theoretical training with modules via a bespoke L+R Hotels Learning Management System provided by FLOW Hospitality Training, and personal seminars delivered by L+R Hotels’ own experts. In the final six months of the programme, candidates will benefit from leadership training by shadowing a supervisor or leading a small team. This provides them vital experience, and subject to their performance and our Executives’ recommendation, they would move up to an Entry Management role as soon as they have completed their programme.

Additionally, every Fast Tracker will have access to our Principals and Senior Executives who are quick to spot talent.

We aim for our programme to be a game-changer: most of our competitors offer little or no mentorship, no theoretical training, and no leadership training, leaving individuals unprepared for what’s to come.”

Two internship programmes
L+R Hotels has already introduced the two internship programmes in their career development strategy, placing interns in L+R Hotels or L+R Hotels headquarters.

The Operational Internship is suitable for university-level students who need to complete an internship as part of their course. Subject to availability, they can choose from various departments in L+R Hotels.

The Project Management Internship is also for university students who need a project-based internship for their thesis or to complete a management internship. Interns will work alongside a Manager and be given a specific project for their thesis.
