Luxury Après Ski Index: New research reveals the most luxurious ski resorts in Europe

Saint Moritz, Switzerland.

This newly-released ‘Luxury Après Ski Index’ ranks the best resorts on the continent for those looking for a touch of glamour after a hard day on the slopes.

The European ski season is upon us once again and after the pandemic closures of 2020, many skiers are desperate to hit the slopes. So why not do it in style?

This newly-released ‘Luxury Après Ski Index’ ranks the best resorts on the continent for those looking for a touch of glamour after a hard day on the slopes.

The brand new study, released by luxury travel specialists Oliver’s Travels, ranks ski resorts based on their luxury offering, examining three key elements – Michelin Guide restaurants, spa and wellness centres, and high-end designer shops.

The Most Luxurious Ski Resorts For Après Ski
1. Zermatt, Switzerland
2. Chamonix, France
3. Courchevel, France
4. Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy
5. Saint Moritz, Switzerland
6. Selva di Val, Gardena Italy
7. Madonna di Campiglio, Italy
8. Crans Montana, Switzerland
9. Gstaad, Switzerland
9. Livigno, Italy

Ranking in the top spot is Zermatt in Switzerland, with France’s Chamonix and Courchevel in second and third place respectively, followed by Cortina d’Ampezzo in Italy, and Switzerland’s St. Moritz rounds up the top five.

Last winter, Alpine skiing was almost impossible as ski lifts around Europe were shut to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Hotels were allowed to open and other winter activities were authorised, but the lack of downhill skiing and travel restrictions caused great sadness for many snow enthusiasts.

Although travel is still not as straightforward as it was pre-Covid, skiing is back on the cards for the 2021/22 season – restrictions considered. That’s why luxury travel company, Oliver’s Travels are keen to shed light on the best resorts for those looking to really celebrate their return to the slopes.

Oliver Bell, Co-Founder of Oliver’s Travels, said: “After going a year without getting to the slopes, we think it’s even more important to make 2022 the best ski season yet – especially when this will be the first holiday back for a lot of families. Whether that means dining in top restaurants, picking up a few luxury gifts or enjoying some TLC at the spa, we’ve got you covered with our ‘Luxury Après Ski Index’.

“With limited availability for the months ahead, this will make it even easier for you to quickly find the perfect place to stay on your next winter break, filtering by what matters to you and your travel party the most.”

So where to visit for what you might ask? Courchevel, which came third overall, ranked highest for the number of Michelin Guide restaurants that it offers to holiday-makers, with it being home to one of only 135 Michelin three-star restaurants in the world.

The French resort was also joint first with Switzerland’s St Moritz for anyone looking to do a spot of shopping after a hard day’s ski. Both resorts offer 13 high-end designer shops to browse including Prada, Gucci, Cartier, Dior and Ray-Ban.

Those looking to relax in the Alpine air should head to Zermatt, a ski resort that offers a choice of 94 spa and wellness centres to visitors. However, this will have to wait until next season with Switzerland’s travel restrictions, but you can transit through the country to France’s Les Arcs, which is hot on its heels with 93 wellness centres to choose from.

The Luxury Après Ski Index examined 75 ski resorts across Europe overall, which were selected based on their popularity and frequency in which they were featured in luxury publications.
