During the PCMA 50th Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, January 8-11, 2006, a group of member volunteers expected to number more than 100 people will step out of the convention center and into the the community as part of the annual “Hospitality Helping Hands” program.

PCMA members will tackle two projects during a morning of volunteer work on Sunday, January 8. Many of the volunteers will go to the Nicetown Boys & Girls Club to paint the gymnasium and adjacent hallways. The club was founded in 1903 and offers leadership, character, education, and career development, as well as programs focusing on health and life skills, the arts, sport, fitness and recreation.

The rest of the Hospitality Helping Hands volunteers will travel to Stenton Park to clean and paint the general purpose room and bathrooms and refurbish the kitchen. The park is one of Philadelphia’s largest and oldest neighborhood parks, and provides recreational and sports related activities to Nicetown and surrounding communities.

“This ‘hands on’ service project provides a rewarding alternative to the traditional convention networking event,” explains PCMA Manager of Community Services Sarah Corradino. “Plus, the work they do makes a real difference in the lives of community residents.”

Members who participate receive transportation to the work sites, breakfast, a box lunch, and a commemorative t-shirt. The $75 participation fee goes directly to the community organizations involved. This event is generously sponsored by Conferon and Marriott.
