Qatar Airways: 1m+ passengers home and 70K+ tons of medical supplies transported

Qatar Airways is regularly disinfecting aircraft with the use of cleaning products recommended by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the World Health Organization (WHO), and thermal screening of crew.

Taking people home
To date, Qatar Airways has helped reunite over 1 million passengers with their loved ones via both scheduled and charter flights, including flights to new destinations such as Toronto. These efforts included:

  • Repatriating more than 215,000 passengers in total back home to France, Germany and the United Kingdom
  • Operating over 90 charters and extra sector flights taking home over 26,000 stranded travellers – with efforts continuing today
  • Continuing to operate approximately 60 scheduled flights a day to around 40 destinations (including to YUL and DFW, for example)

Transporting critical supplies
Qatar Airways Cargo has increased operations with almost 100 scheduled and charter flights per day to play a key role in transporting over 70 tons of medical supplies and aid relief to impacted regions around the world (equivalent to approx. 500 fully loaded Boeing 777 freighters). To continue to fulfill demand, the cargo division is also utilizing passenger aircraft to carry freight-only to destinations in China, Europe, India and the Middle East.

Safeguarding passengers and staff
Qatar Airways is regularly disinfecting aircraft with the use of cleaning products recommended by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the World Health Organization (WHO), and thermal screening of crew. Additional features across its fleet include:

  • The most advanced air filtration systems, equipped with industrial-size HEPA filters that remove 99.97% of viral and bacterial contaminants from re-circulated air
  • All the airline’s onboard linen and blankets are washed, dried and pressed at microbial lethal temperatures
  • All meal service utensils and cutlery are washed with detergents and rinsed with demineralized fresh water at temperatures that kill pathogenic bacteria, and all sanitized equipment is handled by staff wearing hygienic disposable gloves
