Squaremouth reports a 41% increase in the number of travelers taking cruises compared to 2019

A majority of cruisers are between the ages of 55-74 (50%), 10 years older than the average traveler age buying a travel insurance policy on Squaremouth.com (45 years old).

Recent data and survey results from travel insurance comparison site, Squaremouth.com, reveals more people are insuring cruises today than prior to the pandemic. The biggest trends are listed below:

More cruisers today compared to pre-pandemic years
Squaremouth reports a 41% increase in the number of travelers taking cruises compared to 2019. 87% of travelers insuring a cruise have recently booked it, as opposed to it having been rescheduled. 57% of travelers booking cruises in 2022 said they do not cruise frequently. This may indicate travelers are taking larger-scale “bucket list” cruises, due to incentives offered by cruise lines today. Most say they don’t plan to cruise more often. The average cost of a cruise being insured today is $6,000.

Concerned about medical coverage
Most cruisers express being primarily concerned about medical coverage throughout the trip, as opposed to cancellation coverage. This could be due to lenient refund policies cruise lines are using to incentivize bookings. These medical policies include coverage for contracting Covid-19.
