Vienna International Airport: 2.1% decline in passengers

The development of traffic at Vienna International Airport reflected with the general trend in the aviation branch with a decline in October. In comparison with October of the previous year, the number of passengers fell by 2.1% to 1,689,693. Flight movements increased 0.3% and maximum take-off weight (MTOW) grew by 2.5%.

The number of passengers handled by Vienna International Airport rose by 7.8% to 16,997,648 for the first ten months of 2008. With this increase in passenger volume, Vienna International Airport again outpaced the 1.2% growth reported by Airports Council International for the branch in Europe over the first three quarters of this year. Increases were also recorded in maximum take-off weight (MTOW) with 8.6% and flight movements with 6.8%.

Flughafen Wien AG has revised its traffic forecasts for 2008 to reflect these recent developments. Estimates now call for an increase of 6.0% in passengers, instead of the previously announced 8.0%. Current information indicates that flight movements will rise by 5.0% (instead of the previously announced 6.0%), while the forecast for maximum take-off weight (MTOW) remains unchanged at 6.0%. These results will also place Vienna International Airport significantly above the European average.
