As the Director of Sports Marketing for Visit Panama City Beach, Chris O’Brien oversees the marketing of Panama City Beach as a preferred sports destination for tournaments and fosters business development in sports and special events.
PANAMA CITY BEACH, FLA. – Visit Panama City Beach announce that Chris O’Brien, Director of Sports Marketing, has been elected to the Sports Events and Tourism Association (Sports ETA) Board of Directors. As the non-profit 501(c)3 trade association for the sports events and tourism industry in the United States, Sports ETA is the most essential resource for sports commissions, sports destinations, sports event owners, and industry partners.
“We are thrilled to announce Chris O’Brien’s appointment to the Sports ETA Board of Directors,” said Dan Rowe, Visit Panama City Beach President and CEO. “Since joining the team eight years ago, Chris has helped establish Panama City Beach as a leading destination in sports tourism and events, and he will be an invaluable asset to this prestigious national association.”
As the Director of Sports Marketing for Visit Panama City Beach, O’Brien oversees the marketing of Panama City Beach as a preferred sports destination for tournaments and fosters business development in sports and special events. O’Brien has played an integral role in the design, planning and development of tourism events at the 150-acre Publix Sports Park complex, Panama City Beach’s premier sports tourism and community recreation venue.
“It’s an honor to be selected to serve on the Sports ETA Board of Directors,” said O’Brien. “As a board member, I look forward to representing Sports ETA’s 600-plus member organizations and working toward continued growth and success for the sports events and tourism industry.”
Prior to joining the Visit Panama City Beach team, O’Brien assisted in starting the sports tourism department for Collier County Florida / Naples. He also served as Director of Finance and Administration of the Tallahassee CVB and Assistant Director of the Tallahassee Sports Council. O’Brien obtained a master’s degree in Sports Administration from Florida State University, where he worked for the Florida State University Seminole Boosters for five years. He is a member of the Panama City Beach Parks and Recreation Board and has served as an adjunct professor for FSU Panama City Campus in recreation tourism and events. Currently, O’Brien teaches as an adjunct for the Dedman College of Hospitality in Tallahassee.
