The luxury resort in northeastern Crete has reopened in time for the summer season, unveiling an infinity overflow swimming pool, new rooms with private pools, elevated guest experiences and more.

CRETE, GREECE – Wyndham Grand Crete Mirabello Bay, the luxury resort on the northeast coast of the Greek island of Crete, has officially reopened following the completion of an extensive renovation and redesign, after a soft-opening in April. Owned and managed by Zeus International Hotels & Resorts, Wyndham Grand Crete Mirabello Bay previously underwent two stages of renovation to modernise the rooms and elevate the guest experience, and hopes to establish itself as one of the leading resorts on the island of Crete, offering an unparalleled, five-star experience. With a total of 318 rooms, 115 of which have private pools, Wyndham Grand Crete Mirabello Bay is home to a private marina (the largest, privately owned marina in Crete), two private beaches awarded with a blue flag, a beach club, four Mediterranean and Cretan Cuisine restaurants with an emphasis on local and organic products, five bars, an outdoor cinema, a spa with indoor and outdoor facilities. New for summer 2023, the resort has unveiled an upgraded aesthetic and amenities including an infinity “lagoon” pool overlooking the Mirabello bay, 115 remodelled rooms and suites with private pools, a remodelled hotel entrance, “in water dining” at the hotel’s Elia restaurant, landscaped olive groves and organic vegetable gardens, “Spilia” wine cave and private dining, and an impressive new menu of excursions and experiences for guests for an unforgettable Cretan holiday.

Drawing inspiration from the local rural villages, the design of the new residences on a traditional Cretan architecture known for its dense construction of buildings; two-storey terraced houses which face narrow cobbled streets and ‘Doma’ flat-rooftops. Designed to complement the landscape, the resort’s layout follows the natural lines of the terrain, with the facades of both the central hotel and residences in “The Village” finished in locally sourced, natural materials such as stone, wood and plaster, with the least possible processing. In keeping with this organic theme, the interiors of the rooms feature a soothing, earthy colour palette of fawn, tan and silver-grey, with the walls decorated with floral wallpaper and traditional Cretan embroideries. Championing natural materials, oak wood flooring and decorative fixtures run throughout all rooms and suites, which are completed with beautiful marble bathrooms and terraces with private pools, providing guests with the utmost comfort and privacy. In addition to the remodelled rooms, three new luxury suites have been established, all with private outdoor areas, swimming pools, lounge areas, dining spaces and luxury bathrooms complete with indoor jacuzzis.

Adjacent to the hotel’s main swimming pool, a magnificent infinity “lagoon” pool has been installed with a pool bar and cabana beds which stretch along the water, creating the perfect setting for guests to relax and soak up the sun at Mirabello bay. On its private beach, 70 new wooden sun-lounging gazebos have been added, and a floating sea platform has been built to assist guests embarking on adventures in the Aeonian waters. Nearby, an outdoor cinema has been erected for recreation and entertainment, next to the newly landscaped olive grove and garden, which grows aromatic native plants and organic herbs and vegetables that serve the hotel’s restaurants. Expanding on its F&B offering, the resort has launched “Spilia”, a natural cave located on the hotel grounds just off the private marina with superb views of the bay, which has been delicately transformed into a wine cellar and tasting venue with a private dining area. Additionally, a captivating new “dining in water” experience has been introduced at the renowned Elia restaurant, featuring individual tables elegantly placed on pedestals within a landscaped pool. This enchanting setting offers an intimate ambiance, perfect for romantic moments while enjoying breathtaking views of Mirabello Bay.

Near the Traditional Cretan Kafeneion, among the olive trees, the Shisha Patio lounge flourishing with colours of the East, decorated with handmade furniture and original woven textiles manifesting traditional Cretan designs, such as bronze candle holders and planters, and vintage carpets with traditional geometric patterns. The resort’s outdoor gym is conveniently located on a roof terrace, offering guests a breath of fresh air while training, alongside a spectacular southeastern view of Agios Nikolaos, with a sturdy wooden canopy providing protection from the elements. In addition, using dry stone and wood, a yoga platform has been specially built within the resort’s serene, landscaped olive grove, oriented towards the sea goddess. Featuring the quiet sounds of the sea in the background, a new outdoor spa area has also been poised in this peaceful location.

Completing the guest experience, Wyndham Grand Crete Mirabello Bay has collaborated with local artisans and small businesses across northeastern Crete to launch its brand new experiences catalogue, elevating all guest stays and promising an authentic and memorable Cretan vacation. The curated and exclusive menu of unique tours and excursions ranges from private sailing and fishing trips to perfumery workshops and wine tours. Offering a perfect mix of luxury and adventure, resort guests will have the choice between incredible private sea tours which leave straight from the hotel’s marina, or perhaps the chance to indulge in one of the oldest professions in Greece, fishing, while sailing on a traditional boat called KAIKI. They can adventure in-land on a Jeep Safari or taste Crete’s culinary & wine treasures through a wine tour at the exceptional Spilia – Wyndham Grand Crete Mirabello Bay’s natural cave – or a traditional cooking lesson at the Mittato Shepherds Hut. Guests can spend their days learning the secrets of making natural Cretian perfumes, soaps and face creams to take home as a souvenir or even revive their senses with a wide range of treatments in the relaxing spa, which includes an indoor pool, a steam room and saunas.

Haris Siganos, CEO and Group President of Zeus International Hotels & Resorts, said, “With Crete being such a popular destination for Greeks and international tourists, it’s important to remain competitive and offer our guests an experience unequalled on the island. Now that the final stage of the extensive redesign and renovation is complete, we hope it will meet the growing demands of the international, modern-day traveller, and we’re excited to welcome new and returning guests”. After an initial refurbishment in 2019 which saw the revamp of the first cluster of rooms and main reception area, Wyndham Grand Crete Mirabello Bay underwent a considerable redesign in early 2022 before the hotel underwent the final stages of its complete transformation this winter.
