In October, the International SPA Association will present the must-attend event of the year for spa professionals. The ISPA<.> Annual Conference is set for October 20 – 23 in Anaheim, Calif.; this is the 12th year for the event.

Simplicity will be a key theme throughout Conference, After the events of Sept. 11, people around the world are getting back to the basics and so is ISPA, it really is as simple as black and white, explained ISPA Executive Director Lynne McNees.

This year’s Conference will provide spa professionals with the tools they need to solidify their company’s long-term business. Two sets of educational sessions are scheduled for three days of Conference. The topics have been carefully selected and range from How to write an effective business plan to Recent trends in employment law and Marketing in the new millennium. For the first time at the ISPA Conference, the breakout sessions will be repeated to allow delegates to attend the sessions they want at the time that works best for them.

Another addition to this year’s Conference is the inclusion of roundtables for the European, Asia Pacific and Canadian delegates. These groups will have the unique opportunity to meet face-to-face to discuss more localized issues relevant in their areas.

Nearly 1,900 key decision-makers representing at least 20 countries attended last year’s Conference in Palm Springs, Calif. This year, ISPA estimates 2,500 spa professionals will converge in Anaheim. The ISPA Conference continues to be the greatest source of growth and education for professionals in the spa industry. This year we are focused on bringing in speakers and educators that will entertain as well as provide tools that you can implement immediately to drive your business. We are especially committed to bringing new information for growing businesses, as well as accommodating new spa owners and managers, said Jennifer Maner, chair of the Conference Task Force.

This year’s keynote speakers will convey practical business advice during their sessions. ISPA has secured Peter Greenberg, travel editor for NBC’s Today show, to speak on Monday, Oct. 21. Greenberg is considered the nation’s foremost authority on travel and the travel industry. On Tuesday, Oct. 22, Clyde Fessler will speak on building a brand. Fessler is the vice president of business development for Harley-Davidson. ISPA is looking at proposals from several other exciting and respected speakers; the association plans to announce those names within the next several weeks.
