ACTA files comments with DOT

In Canada, ACTA is in the process of updating the filing with the Canadian Competition Bureau with our most recent activities.

MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO, CANADA – The Association of Canadian Travel Agencies (ACTA) has filed comments with the DOT to support a recent Open Allies position that rejects IATA’s Resolution 787 (NDC) and urges the DOT to have IATA re-file an amended application that contains only the terms for which IATA seeks DOT’s blessing. This would remove any ambiguity that has been created by filing the full Resolution.

Recent AAF meetings with IATA representatives on issues surrounding NDC have been unrewarding for David McCaig, President and COO of ACTA, stating, “We have observed a trend in these meetings that reinforces our belief IATA is not prepared to address the key concerns head on. The unanswered question remains, “How can IATA ensure that the new capabilities of NDC will not be leveraged in a way by the carriers which will negatively affect competition, privacy and transparency, for consumers and our members?”

Mr. McCaig has written to Tony Tyler, IATA Director General and CEO, to express his disappointment and continued concern with IATA’s actions as it relates to Resolution 787(NDC). “When we push for answers to the tough questions IATA representatives will proclaim ‘commercial agreements will be left to the airlines’, which continues to raise the red flags”, commented McCaig. ACTA understands the role of IATA and the challenges surrounding the ability to comment on commercial issues but for ACTA members, “It is the principles within the commercial implications related to NDC that must be addressed.” McCaig concluded.

In Canada, ACTA is in the process of updating the filing with the Canadian Competition Bureau with our most recent activities. ACTA’s position remains that Resolution 787 (NDC) is a new business model which constitutes an agreement among IATA member airlines to substantially lessen competition and privacy in the sale of air transportation services in Canada.
