Annual report UIA: Brussels placed second in 2013 for the fifth year in row

For the fifth year in a row, Brussels has held on to its position as the number one conference venue in Europe, and the second in the world.

According to the annual statistics of the Union of International Associations (UIA), the Brussels Capital Region once again consolidated its leading position in 2013 by hosting 436 conferences, equivalent to 4,1% of the global market. This takes Brussels into second place behind Singapore (994) and ahead of Vienna (318), Seoul (242) and Tokyo (228).

That’s not the end of the good news for Brussels and its conferences. The ICCA (International Congress and Convention Association) has also released its 2013 figures for worldwide conference destinations, and Brussels is in the top 15, with 111 events. With the growing competition of other countries, the ICCA’s results are incredibly important for Europe’s capital.

Despite the unfavorable economic situation of 2013 Brussels has succeeded to maintain the total of all nights and meetings, and this on a high level.

Major growth for the meetings industry

These figures prove that Brussels is enjoying fantastic growth as a destination for conferences. A number of different factors come together to help the city’s positive image and enable our capital to welcome organizations and associations. As host town for numerous international associations the city of Brussels has a number of seats in constant evolution, a great diversity and an infrastructural development with openings of new hotels and venues. The Brussels Convention Bureau offers a whole array of services to help make sure that conferences, meetings and different events run smoothly. This includes organization for welcoming visitors, customized assistance and pre-bookings for a successful outcome for any event.
