Vickie Greenlee, CTC, ACC, of For Travelers Only (Jackson, Miss.) became ASTA’s ninth national director-at-large, breaking a tie with Bob Kern of PNR Travel (Los Angeles), at the summer meeting of the American Society of Travel Agents’ (ASTA). Both had received 373 votes in ASTA’s recent election for national directors.
In other business, the Board approved election procedures for the 2006-2007 Executive Committee, which will be elected from nine national directors at-large by the Board of Directors, which in turn consists of nine directors-at-large, three Chapter Presidents Council Representatives, the International Chapter Presidents Council Chair, the two Corporate Advisory Board representatives and the seven directors from odd-numbered areas who are finishing out their terms.
The meeting, which was held in New Orleans, also allowed BOD members to see first-hand the recovery status of New Orleans’ tourism infrastructure. Several tourism groups, including the New Orleans Metropolitan Convention & Visitors Bureau and area hoteliers and restaurateurs provided briefs to the members on their recovery since Hurricane Katrina.
Other key items addressed during the meeting were an in-depth progress report on ASTA’s transition to the new business plan and Core and Premium membership status; staff presented to the BOD with an in-depth look at the status of various projects related to the transition
Additionally, ASTA’s Board of Directors selected Lyon, France, as the venue for its 2008 International Destination Expo (April 12 -16, 2008). The Board also voted 12-11 to discontinue ASTA’s Senior Membership category in 2009.
